At Oekofest 2026, Äerdschëff met members of the public with MOBILAB and its Karbike. A day full of test rides and conversations helped us continue our current territorial inquiry into light intermediate vehicles, known as VLI in French.
From test rides to conversation
Throughout the day, many people climbed aboard the Karbike and experienced a type of vehicle that is still relatively unfamiliar in Luxembourg.
But for MOBILAB, the aim goes beyond trying out a vehicle.
How could a light intermediate vehicle fit into our everyday journeys? For which trips and needs? What difficulties arise? What services, infrastructure or learning opportunities would make it easier to use?
The reactions, questions and conversations prompted by the test rides help us understand these issues and compare the possibilities offered by these vehicles with realities on the ground.
Our territorial inquiry continues
MOBILAB starts from a simple principle: new technology alone does not transform the way we travel. For an alternative to work over time, we also need to consider uses, habits, infrastructure, maintenance, rules and the specific circumstances of each territory.
This is precisely the purpose of our current territorial inquiry: bringing together experience and knowledge to identify collectively the conditions needed for light intermediate vehicles to develop in our territories.
Oekofest gave us the opportunity to gather a wealth of feedback and, above all, to meet new people who want to take part in the next stages of MOBILAB.

What comes next? Join the territorial inquiry
To continue this work, we are looking for residents, professionals, associations, local authorities and other people and organisations interested in mobility to join our online working groups.
The commitment is deliberately modest: 1 hour a month, contributing to one of four working groups:
- Uses and users
- Vehicles, safety and maintenance
- Governance, funding and law
- Data, evaluation and knowledge transfer
You do not need to be an expert: bringing together different perspectives, experiences and skills is exactly what we need to move the experimentation forward.
