Citizen research and shared governance
subjects:
Co-design every step of a research project, from topic selection to dissemination, while experimenting with a decision-making process where everyone plays an active role. Live a collective experience that sparks innovative ideas and empowers every voice to build shared, meaningful knowledge.
Why is this important?
- Active participation: students become full actors in the project, strengthening their engagement and motivation
- Collective decision-making: using consent ensures that every voice is heard and valued, fostering group cohesion
- Empowering autonomy: by taking on key responsibilities, young people develop a sense of accountability and self-confidence
- Democratic education: this project brings participatory democracy to life, preparing tomorrow’s citizens through hands-on experience
By the end, you will be able to:
- Design and lead a youth-led citizen research project from start to finish, in school or community settings
- Apply sociocratic principles (consent-based decisions, rotating roles, circles) to guide a youth group
- Support student autonomy while maintaining a structured and ethical working framework
- Foster a culture of democratic engagement, cooperation and mutual respect in a class or group
